I'd read the bracket was coming off to allow more clearance..

Aye but I tink the bracket's quite deep and the remaining stud will be left out in the open when the bracket is removed. May have read it wrong but if theres 5 inches of chassis leg int he way I doubt removing a bracket will help much.
